Weekly Blog (May 4th, 2012)

This week, I have completed my presentation, poster, and paper. The final touches are being placed on everything, and the project is wrapping up very successfully. The last thing that needs to be completed is the final model and placing it on the site model.

Weekly Blog #14 (April 13, 2012)

First slide of PowerPoint
  • I have officially finished all of my components for my project. They have all been incorporated in the PowerPoint presentation that I worked on this week. This PowerPoint will be used for when I present my project in May. Pictures from all my components have been placed in my PowerPoint, except for the architectural drawings which will be presented separately.
  • At home, I have been been working on my final model, which has come a long way. This model is more difficult to construct than I anticipated, but I am taking my time so it can be presentable and efficient. The model is made out of basswood, and some components of the model are made from balsa wood.
  • Next week, I will be working on my paper again. My project is coming to an end, and I am pleased with everything that I have completed, and ready to work on everything I have yet to complete.

Front Rendering of model

  • In class I have been working on my last component, the 3ds renderings. I just completed them, but this week, I was having a hard time converting my SketchUp model into the 3ds program file. I completed 3 renderings of the exterior faces of the model.
  • At home I completed my chipboard model and I am working on completing my basswood model.
  • This weekend, I will be completing my basswood model, which is the final product, and next week, I will be working on my Powerpoint presentation.

Portion of Hand drawn  floor plan
  • In class this week, I have completed my Sketch Up model with the materials. It has been more time consuming than I anticipated but I did not face any significant challenges today.
  • I was going to work on my architecture drawings in AutoCad but I decided to hand draw them at home. This week I completed drawing my floor plans and section cuts on vellum paper. That will be part of my final presentation.
  • This next week, I will be rendering images through 3D Studio Max. This will be my last component that I will need to complete.

Weekly Blog #11 (March 23, 2012)

Site Analysis Poster
Acoustics Poster
  • In class, I have been working on illustrator posters for the site analysis and for the acoustics of my project. The site analysis poster did not give me problems because I had taken various photographs for the poster. The acoustics poster has been tougher to complete because I do not have any pictures of my own and without pictures, it is had to make look like a professional poster. During my adviser meeting, I will ask for help with the acoustics poster.
  • I went to Hobby Lobby to see how much bass wood costs and this weekend I will be going to the Co-op art store in Austin to see the price levels there. I will begin my final model this weekend with the materials that I will buy.
  • Throughout the rest of this month and in April, I will be working on the final model of my project.

X-Ray view of SketchUP Model

Wire frame view of SketchUp Model
  • In class, I am working on my SketchUp model. I have started on all components of my model in SketchUp, but I have still yet to complete it. The hardest problem that I am facing is lack of time, so I downloaded SketchUp on my own computer to work on my own time. This model is giving me a better perspective of what my final model will be once I begin creating the final model at home.
  • At home I began my chipboard model, which will just give me an idea of how big my final model will be, and how I want the final model to look. This sketch model is in the same scale as the final model will be (1/16"). I have enough chipboard to finish this model, but I will have to buy basswood to create the final model.
  • This next week is spring break, but this weekend I am planning on completing my SketchUp model and finish my chipboard model so I can begin the final model by next weekend and the week when I get back to school. I also want to finish my poster for my site analysis this weekend.

Weekly Blog #9 (March 2, 2012)

1st Component of Theatre in SketchUp.

  • This week, I have begun working on the first component of my model in SketchUp. I thought that it would be easier than it has been, but I am still completing what I need to to stay on time. The actual shape of the theatre is causing some problems, but I have been working through everything as best as I can.
  • This weekend I am  going to be starting on the actual model of my theatre. This is a big step because this model will be the final project that I will present at the end of the year.Hopefully I will not encounter too many problems upon starting this portion of my project.
  • Outside of class, I am working on the final project, which is the actual model of the theatre at a 1/16" scale.
